(Pictured here: My face after dealing with this shit)
So my internet broke. I tried everything to fix it. Reset the modem. Unplugged the telephone jack. Hell I even tried moving it to a different jack. Nothing! So here's where it gets good! I call the cable company to get someone out here and after talking to someone from india for 40 minutes trying to get someone out here...it magically starts working. I asked them if they did anything, nope, it just randomly decided to start working again. So here's to you my internet, you truly are an inglorious bastard!

Finally fed up with AT&T's shit, we upgraded to Charter. Charter guys come out, and in the course of seven hours we go from having mediocre internet, phone, and TV to having .02mbps internet, no phones, and no TV.
Next day they send someone not on drugs, and he diagnoses that the guys before,
A) used a 12-port amplifier for 4 cables
B) plugged the internet cable into the DVR and the television cable into the modem. How we got any internet at all is a miracle.
C) Plugged the phones into AT&T's old box instead of Charter's new one.
D) In trying to figure out why nothing was working, and after a 45 minute lapse to "go get some equipment", they damaged the main cable coming into the house.
We're currently waiting for Charter to come re-bury it.
In the meantime, I got one router that would only work if you left it sitting for several hours before plugging it in. If you needed to power-cycle it, or there was a power outage, it bricked itself and had to be left alone for several hours.
I took that one back and got a different brand, different model. This one wouldn't display the setup menu (192.168.1.1) unless it had an internet connection, but couldn't establish an internet connection without being setup through the router menu. FINALLY got that sorted by doing some synchronized power-cycling, but now the 2.4GHz channel, which is the only one that reaches my room in the basement, only works for about 20 minutes before it needs to be reset, so I'm running off of like 2 daisy-chained wireless repeaters. Ping: Eventually.

I've been there. The internet can be a real bitch sometimes, regardless of where I am. I'm on vacation in the Outer Banks now, and the wifi at the beach house is terrible. I've been replying to posts on oppo with my phone because the 3G network is FASTER THAN THE WIFI. Not really a big issue, but still annoying, especially since the rest of my family had no problems with the internet. And one time back home, it took me two hours to get connected to xbox live. TWO HOURS! OK, rant over.

HAVE YOU EVER USED UVERSE?
THERE IS NO DOWNGRADE. UVERSE IS ROCK BOTTOM.
The main issue is you're forced to use their combination modem/router, which was a piece of shit in both regards. Having limited connectivity in my room is better than having to run an ethernet cable through the ducts up to the router.
Also, with AT&T, we were promised 8Mbps and got 6. With Charter, we were promised 30 and regularly hit 70.
